Pap water and lime mixture ‘cures’ liver disease — Prof. Oyedepo
Researchers at the Adeleke University, Ede, have made a potential cure for liver diseases from omi ogi (pap water) and lemon.
According to the Dean of the university’s Faculty of Sciences, Professor Temitope Oyedepo, the mixture has been found to be potent against liver problems, Punch reports.
“We are currently carrying our research on omi ogi and lemon. This protects and cleans up the liver even when it is already infected,” Oyedepo said.
“We are still going further to see its effects on high blood pressure and if it can lower blood glucose.
“It would be great if it can cure these two conditions also.”
Omi ogi is the fermented water on the paste-like substance derived from blended maize.
The don noted that the institution has conducted other researches on local plants to identify their medicinal values.
“We have carried out studies on extracts of local plants to establish their authenticity in treating cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes and even cancer.”
The don revealed that the university’s Bio-Chemistry Department had concluded studies into the use of moringa and almond leaves.
Adeleke University is owned by the father of pop star Davido.
The university was recently in the news for awarding a scholarship to an 18-year-old admission seeker who was allegedly raped by a part-time lecturer of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
